Don't Say Sorry
03:31
|
|||
You say you know what you've been at,
And how the gloom or anger take control,
And that now that it has passed,
It looks from outside like someone else's role,
This isn't the first time and it won't be the last,
You can't turn out the sunshine or blank out the past
So take a look and just hit it - before it destroys,
So take a step into quiet - and back from the noise,
Just stop it now from happening - so you don't bleed,
Just stop it now from destroying - so you don't need
To say sorry.
You say you regret what you did,
You've let down so many close and far,
You've betrayed trust and friendship,
Stopped thinking and forgot who you are,
This isn't the first time and it won't be the last,
You can't be an example or the hero as cast,
So take a look and just pull back - see why you're there,
The urge for that power once - came with care,
Just stop it from happening - don't apologise,
Just stop the connection - from high office to lies,
Don't say sorry.
There's a choice of action if you're tired of regret,
It's your own direction only you can set.

Unraveled Thread

So cold,
The roads are long and the pace is slow,
Conversation is halting,
Like our pace here in the snow,
It's dark and it's quiet,
The tables are free,
It's Middle America
And sometimes it's the middle of me,
Not another plant,
But not home territory
History
The European Spanish and working men,
California dreaming,
But through an altogether different lens,
Ghost of Doc & The Boys,
Respected though once defaced,
50's courtesy,
Beauty, calm and grace,
Surprised to be at home.
Home, an imagined place.
So bored,
The forced false smiles are fooling no one,
Here in Convention Town,
We take your money and offer plastic fun,
It's slow and aloof,
The hospitality myth,
Ship 'em in and ship 'em out,
An experience to miss,
Slap the card down,
I wouldn't sign up to this.
Just when I think I - have it clear in my head,
They really think it's their flag to which we aspire?
There's another - unravelled thread,
We get angry and tortured by so much to admire.
Identikit,
Strip Malls and concrete just everywhere,
Drive don't walk,
No signature, you could be anywhere,
Service with TM,
And a lawsuit to file,
The corporation's working
To own every mile,
It's this that we import
There is no denial.
Just give in,
Resistance is futile, embrace,
24 hour day,
No inside or outside or night or day,
Sights imported,
If you want it it's here,
The air is regulated,
The refill will appear,
We'll pipe in everything,
An on- tap atmosphere.
Just when I think I have it clear in my head, (May not need a passport to stay,)
They really think it's their flag to which we aspire? (Or approval so do it anyway,)
There's another unravelled thread, (But from Cannery Row to The Garden State)
We get angry and tortured by so much to admire (From frenetic to sedate - it's every colour.)
It's a race,
To enter you need the best of everything,
It has the measure of you,
Exaggerate and sprint to win,
But off the main street,
Is a different place,
Full of surprises,
Of sounds and smells and taste,
By invitation only,
Mr NY face.

When
04:35
|

They say the laughter trade works so hard
'cos it's working at distraction,
From the biggest curtain call,
it's avoidance by stupefaction
Just keep focused on looking away
She said the pleasure of oblivion is out
for all who have hope of change,
So raise a glass if it doesn't add up
if you can think hard and try again
That step back is worth a million tears
Thank God it all makes sense
When I hold your hand and I'm listening to you breathe
When we watch her grow and we see her and believe
When the days are long and simplicity lies in peace
When the ease of time seems like it'll never cease
No way that oblivion could be sublime.
How can someone prefer the void?
to them it's not bleak and cold,
To us a chilling invitation
and so fragile a hope to hold
When despair can disperse at any time
He said he sees them grappling each day
with their own mortaility
and takes comfort in his own
accepted certainty
Now with distance comes a peace
Thank God it all makes sense when
When I hold your hand and when I'm listening to you breathe
When we watch her grow and when we see her and believe
When the days are long and simplicity lies in peace
When the ease of time seems like it'll never cease
No way that oblivion could be sublime.

Their Way
05:13
|
|||
A walk in a cold Forest,
Left for dead and alone,
A darkened logic of terror,
By one so 'wronged' and adrift
Our anger oversplilled
All hopes of being healed.
An open loving heart forgives,
Refusing bitterness for good,
Believing freedom always lives,
As hatred never could,
I wished I could see it that way,
But only burned to see her pay
An image burns - you look away,
Aghast we close our eyes,
Details too dark and arcane,
Someone else's lurid headline,
But real and too close this time,
No story, no drama just real crime
And thank God we'll never know
Let's pray we'll never see,
The decision they have to make,
The person they have to be,
For all that we might say,
It's lonely dealing with it their way
I'll always admire her for her way
A beautiful spirit from her way
That let her live on beyond that day
